We are excited to announce the launch of our new ‘This Girl Can’-style multi-activity after school club for girls (starting Wednesday 21st April 4.30-7pm).

We have received £1000 from Groundworks and Comic Relief to run a weekly club for 10-18 year old girls in the Portmellon and St Austell areas.  Each week we will offer a different sport or activity ranging from bushcraft and yoga, to SUP and rock pooling.  As the weather warms up we are hoping to offer more water-based activities including sea swimming and snorkelling.

Our launch event is on Wednesday 14th April from 12-4pm on Portmellon beach.  We will be offering yoga, tai chi sword skills, bushcraft, camp cooking, beach games, SUP, kayaking and rock pooling.  Girls are encouraged to sign up for one or more activity and they can bring a friend or older sister along for support if necessary.  There might even be an activity or two for the mums to try too!

Our National Lottery Covid funded project has come to an end but we had a fantastic sponsorship event; our ‘Fitness-athon’ on 21st March to try and raise some more money for this club to continue all year around.  So far the girls and their supporters have managed to raise over £600 which is a fantastic effort.  The just giving page is live for another 3 days so feel free to take a look and donate if you are able.

Mevagissey Parish Council have rather generously donated £350 to help us buy snorkelling equipment and sea swimming tow floats to help keep us safe in the water so thank you to them too.

We are obviously excited to be able to deliver group sessions again but we will still be sticking to current government covid-19 guidance.  We will be running each activity in a small group (maximum 6 girls), will continue with social distancing, and have planned a 15 minute break between each activity so we can keep all the shared equipment sanitised.

Partners for this event include;

Adele from Moor to Sea Food Co

Sophie from Bodmin Yoga

Steph from Three Bays Wildlife Group

Wal from Green Man Tai Chi

and Chrys from The Paddle Shed.

We are also happy to be selling some limited edition, eco-friendly scented candles.  They have been hand poured in Mevagissey especially for Wild Wonder and Wisdom by the wonderful Izzy from The Old Parsonage Homewares.

Get in touch via email or messenger to secure your place or just turn up on the day and sign up on the beach 🙂
