We are getting excited about the new season already since we have had a few glimmers of sunshine and increasing daylight hours. It's making me thing about getting on and in the sea again!! We thought we'd take this opportunity to check in and let you know where WWW are at.
Wild Wonder and Wisdom CIC was established in March 2019 as a Community Interest Company, which means we have been delivering people-centred projects for almost 7 years 🙂 Our offer has organically changed over the years from serving mostly children and young people, to now including a number of different communities all thriving in different ways.
We are a social enterprise motivated creating positive social impact rather than chasing profit margins. We are however moving away from the ‘not for profit’ description in favour of the better placed ‘profit for purpose’ as any business, whatever its motivation, needs to make profit to develop and become more sustainable. Everything we generate goes straight back into WWW to improve the lives of our beneficiaries.
We have recently revisited and adapted our core purpose statements and they are as follows;
Mission
To create happy and healthy communities who enjoy getting outdoors and active together in nature regularly, in order to improve physical and mental wellbeing, and reduce social isolation.
Vision
Our goal is to empower people to try a wide range of different sports and activities in a variety of beautiful blue and green spaces, to enable our communities to develop stronger relationships with nature and each other.
Structure
We have a team of 5 volunteer Directors who sit on our board. We do not have a ‘Person of Significant Control’ so are all equal. We have named ‘Safeguarding’, ‘Health & Safety’ and ‘Finance’ leads who our operational team refer to for advice and guidance.
We have lots of different communities including our well-established ‘This Woman Can’ Support Group (TWC), our ‘Walkie Talkies Plus’ walking group for over 50’s and our youth community (Outdoor Adventurers and Sea Explorers) for 9-16 year olds. We are also part of MENCAP’s ‘Our Active Community‘ for adults with learning disabilities and like to work with young women aged 16-24 in our Reconnect Programme when we have funding available.
We have two active committees of 6 volunteers on both our TWC and Walkie Talkies Plus groups. They both help our operation team to devise our programme of events and activities and help with fundraising efforts.
This week I am going to be doing a quick update on how each of our communities are doing and what the plans are for this coming season.
