Wild Wonder and Wisdom CIC are teaming up with Beyond the Wave CIC to deliver a range Aquatic Safety Qualifications designed by Atlantic Crest and accredited by the Institute for Outdoor Learning. They are an updated and improved replacement for the previous National Water Safety Management Programme (RLSS) that used to be delivered by Cornwall Outdoors before they were dissolved by Cornwall Council.
They are suitable for educational professionals and instructors who take groups near to, or in water, and we have specific modules for pools, inland water and the sea depending on need.
The emphasis in these courses is mainly on reducing incidence of drowning and to develop both confidence and competence in planning group sessions in or near water. It helps organisers of outdoor learning and school trips to feel secure that they have done everything they can to ensure they have followed both the law and their Duty of Care to their groups.
Our motivation to deliver this training is to continue to increase the numbers of children and young people enjoying the water safely. Active Cornwall statistics state that we have 31% primary school leavers in Cornwall who cannot swim 25m unaided. That combined with the worrying number of children and teens who died by drowning over the half term during the heat-wave was awful. We believe we can all be doing more to reduce the impact that drowning has on so many people’s lives.
We are excited to get started and have planned our first courses on 13th and 14th July 2026.
13th July – Level 1/2
14th July – Level 3
Please see the fliers in the gallery attached for more information about what to expect from each level and further dates planned early in the Autumn term so that staff are ready for the academic year ahead. Delivery will be in St Austell Bay and The Lizard.
Please get in touch with Kathy for more information and how to book.
